Only part of the equipment remains visible, notably the faceplate on the edge and door furniture on the faces.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The designation indicates how the mechanism is installed. It does not specify whether the lock is a single-point, multi-point, or certified against forced entry.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section id=\"section-2\" class=\"wp-block-group msg-chapter is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The role of the mortice<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lock case must fit into the housing without compression or excessive play. Fasteners hold the lock in position, and the bolts must align with the strike plates without friction.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enlarging a mortise without inspecting the door may weaken an already narrow area. On a technical or certified door, any modification must comply with the overall set requirements.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section id=\"section-3\" class=\"wp-block-group msg-chapter is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preparing a replacement<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Measure the lock case height, depth and thickness, plus the backset, centres, faceplate shape and dimensions, handle spindle size and screw positions.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The engraved brand and model number can aid in identification. Proper identification often allows retention of handles and the housing rather than replacing the entire door.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section id=\"section-4\" class=\"wp-block-group msg-chapter is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Points to check after installation<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The handle should return normally and the key should turn smoothly without needing to push or lift the door flap forcefully. Tests are first carried out with the door open, then with the door closed.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A difficulty appearing only when the door is closed often points to strike plate alignment or door flap adjustment.
