Start by describing the situation
Is the door simply shut, locked, or damaged? Can you enter through another authorised access point? Does a nearby person have a duplicate key? These questions help distinguish an urgent opening from a replacement that can be scheduled.
If the door cannot be closed, explain this immediately upon first contact. In the event of a threat to a person's safety, emergency services must be contacted first. Do not repeatedly attempt repairs with improvised tools: a limited failure could escalate into a more extensive repair.
Information to prepare
Prepare the full address, access conditions, a photo of the lock, and if possible, its brand. Also indicate whether you have the keys and whether the locking mechanism was malfunctioning prior to the failure.
For a full-length covered multipoint lock or a security door, a general view and a photo of the entry point are often helpful. Keep documentation verifying your right of access to the property; the professional may need to review it prior to entry.
Understand the weekend quotation
Fees may vary depending on the day and time. Request the moving charge, labour cost, and how supplies will be invoiced. A surcharge must be stated in advance, not discovered at payment time.
The written quotation remains binding, even for an urgent locksmith assistance. If a removal reveals additional work, the price adjustment must be clearly specified before acceptance. Your assistance contract may include a specific procedure: verify it directly with the relevant organisation.
Plan the next steps if a part needs ordering
A specific cylinder or housing may not be available on the same day. Depending on the door condition, a temporary closure may be possible, followed by a return with the correct model.
