THE GUIDE · DEFINITION

What is a smart lock ?

A smart lock adds an electronic command to your access. A smartphone, code, or badge can replace some key-based functions. The operation depends on the hardware: motorising a lock and managing authorisations are two different features.

THE PRINCIPLE

An authorisation.
Then an action on the lock.

With a traditional key, the shape of the key authorises the cylinder to rotate. With electronic access, this authorisation comes from a smartphone, badge, or code, depending on the installed system.

The unlocking can then be motorised or require a manual action. On an AirKey cylinder, the authorisation allows turning the button to engage the lock. Nuki and EMZY provide motorisation in their respective configurations.

A door that is unlocked is not necessarily one that opens automatically: moving the leaf requires a separate door operator when this automation is requested.

THREE SOLUTIONS TO COMPARE

The right equipment for your door.

Nuki, EVVA EMZY and EVVA AirKey address different needs. We help you select the appropriate configuration, without overloading your door with multiple devices.

Interior motorisation enables opening from the app. The Keypad 2 adds a code and fingerprint; accessories and features are selected according to the model.

Well-organised access

EVVA AirKey

Digital keys for family members, employees, or service personnel. Permissions are managed online, via a smartphone or a compatible access device that fits the door.

LOCAL OR REMOTE

Clearly distinguish between the two connections.

Bluetooth enables communication near the door. An internet connection allows, depending on the product and its configuration, to manage rights or send a command from another location.

With AirKey, online management is particularly used to transmit authorisations. The cylinder is not a Wi-Fi lock that can be directly operated from anywhere.

With Nuki, remote access depends on the generation and its network connection. For EMZY, remote commands depend on the connected equipment: the motor alone does not provide internet-based opening services.

CRITERIA TO CONSIDER

Well choosing starts with four questions.

Your door

Which cylinder, which mechanism, and which interior space? The lock must operate without abnormal effort.

Your users

Smartphone, code, or badge: which method will really be practical for each person?

Your functions

Depending on your needs, look for options such as access codes, schedules, history, or automatic locking.

Your installation

Power supply, connectivity, maintenance, and emergency opening are prepared with the retained equipment.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Useful answers.

Is it compatible with all doors?

No. We check the dimensions, the cylinder, the lock, the clearances, and the specific requirements of the door. A model compatible with one door is not necessarily compatible with another.

Do all solutions work on batteries?

No. Power varies depending on the product and its generation. The AirKey cylinder operates on batteries; EMZY includes a wired electrical power supply. For Nuki, batteries or power depend on the model.

What daily benefits are retained?

Granting time-limited access to guests, home help, or tenants remains a core use. We recommend the solution best suited to your budget and needs.
