What is a mortice lock?
A mortice lock, also known as mortice lock, is a locking mechanism integrated directly into the door. Unlike surface-mounted rim locks installed on the surface, a mortice lock is invisible from the outside once the door is closed. Only the cylinder, in which the key is inserted, projects beyond the door.
Mortice locks are available in mechanical or electronic versions. They can be either deadbolt (the door locks automatically) or latch bolt. They operate with a euro-profile cylinder, which can be replaced independently of the lock itself.

The advantages of mortice locks
Why choose a mortice lock over another model? Close-up of its main benefits:
Aesthetics
Built into the door, the mortice lock is extremely discreet. It doesn't disrupt the door's design and blends seamlessly with the decoration. This is the ideal solution if you want an elegant and minimalist entrance door.
Security
As its mechanism is hidden within the door's thickness, a mortice lock is very difficult to force from the outside. Burglars cannot break it as easily as a rim lock. Furthermore, multi-point models lock the door at several locations, preventing it from being kicked off.
Models A2P
For even greater security, choose a certified mortice lock A2P. A2P certification assesses resistance to specified attack methods, including picking, drilling and forced removal. It has three levels, shown by 1, 2 or 3 stars. Our locksmith helps you select a certified configuration suited to your door and requirements.

How does a mortice lock replacement proceed?
Would you like to replace your mortice lock or have one installed on a new door? At MULTISECU, we carry out our work in 4 stages:
- We take precise measurements of your door and of the old lock, if any exists.
- We advise you on the selection of the new mortice lock (brand, model, options, security level...) and the cylinder.
- We carry out a careful cut in the door to fit the lock. We ensure the wood is not damaged and that all components are properly aligned.
- We install the lock and cylinder, then test the correct operation before finalising the intervention.
All equipment is provided. We can also order additional keys for you. Allow approximately 2h for a door lock replacement mortice lock installed to specification.

Main types of mortice locks
There are different models of mortice locks, all offering varying levels of security. Among the most common are:
Single-bolt mortice locks
Equipped with a single bolt that engages in the strike plate, single-bolt mortice locks are the most basic. They are suitable for interior doors that do not require high security. Avoid them on an entrance door.
3-point locks
As their name suggests, three-point locks secure the door at three locations, often at the top, middle and bottom. They distribute locking across the door, but overall resistance also depends on the lock model, installation, frame and door. We assess these together when recommending an upgrade.
5-point locks
Five-point locks provide two additional locking points compared with three-point models; seven-point versions are also available. The right choice depends on the door, the fixing points and the tested performance of the complete installation. More locking points alone do not guarantee a higher security rating.
Hesitating between a 3-point or 5-point lock? Our experts will help you choose based on your door's configuration, material, and your specific security and budget requirements.
What cylinder to pair with a mortice lock?
The cylinder recognises the key and operates the mortice lock mechanism. For an entrance door, choose a high-security cylinder compatible with the lock and its protection. Where A2P certification is required, check the approved lock-and-cylinder combination rather than assuming any replacement preserves the rating.
You can also choose an electronic cylinder with code or badge so you can open without a key. Practical when you're carrying a lot of shopping bags!
