The 5 most common lock problems
Stiff key, loose handle, or door that no longer closes: symptoms help identify the fault. Here are five frequent scenarios and useful checks to avoid worsening the issue.

KEY POINTS
If the door is open, keep it open during testing. Compare the operation in this position before gently testing the closure.
1. The key enters but turns slowly
Try a good-quality double lock without forcing. If the fault only occurs when the door is closed, the issue may stem from misalignment between the bolts and strike plates. Lubricating the cylinder does not correct this gap.
If the difficulty persists when the door is open, the cylinder or housing must be inspected. A deformed or cracked key must be replaced before it breaks.
2. The key breaks or gets stuck
Do not push the fragment with the remaining piece and do not use glue or improvised tools. The mechanism's position may prevent a simple extraction.
Removing the fragment may sometimes allow the cylinder to be retained. It is then necessary to understand the cause of the break: key wear, mechanism resistance, or door stress.
3. The handle becomes spongy
The handle, its square, its fittings, or a component of the housing may be at fault. A lever handle that no longer rises does not automatically mean the entire lock needs replacement.
Avoid slamming the door until the half-hinge returns to normal. Identifying the model enables searching for a repair or a compatible part.
4. The lock turns in the air
The cylinder may no longer engage the mechanism, or an internal component of the lock may be damaged. Turning the key again does not restore this engagement.
Indicate whether the fault occurs on both sides and whether the door is open or locked. This information guides the inspection without justifying an impromptu disassembly of a closed door.
5. The closure points no longer enter the strike plates
A sagging door, a frame that has shifted, or a misaligned hinge may prevent locking. Do not systematically enlarge the strike plates to mask the fault.
Checking the door and closure helps distinguish between misalignment and damage. MULTISECU can prepare locksmith assistance based on a description, photos, and the product reference.
