Jammed up-and-over garage door: what should you check?
A jammed garage door may have a faulty lock, an obstruction, a motor failure, or a mechanical issue. It is essential to distinguish between these conditions before attempting to move it.

KEY POINTS
If the door is crooked, very heavy, or if a cable or spring appears damaged, stop all actions and keep people at a distance from the moving area.
Observe before reordering
Check whether an object is obstructing the passage and whether the door remains straight in its guides. Do not insert your hands into the joints and do not position yourself underneath an unstable panel.
On a motorised system, repeated attempts may unnecessarily stress the mechanism. Check the indicators or messages and consult the manual corresponding to the motor model reference.
Differentiate electrical fault from mechanical jam
Check simple, accessible components: power supply, remote control battery, and any manually engaged lock that may remain engaged. Do not dismantle an electrical installation to diagnose a fault.
Emergency unlocking must follow the manufacturer's manual and safety conditions. A door that is unbalanced may become dangerous when detached from the motor: if you are uncertain about its condition, contact a professional.
Inspect the lock without forcing
A key that no longer turns may indicate a cylinder issue, but could also point to a constraint on the hinges or closure points. Do not break the key by forcing it and do not use a lever on the door.
Drilling or cylinder replacement is not a solution for every locking issue. It's essential to identify what is actually preventing the door from opening before addressing the closure mechanism.
Prepare the locksmith assistance
Please specify the brand of the door and motor, the panel position, symptoms, and the presence of any other garage access points. Photos taken from a distance of the moving parts help determine the required intervention.
After reactivation, the guidance, closure, and security features must be checked according to the equipment specifications. The professional will advise whether the intervention involves locksmithing or requires specialised knowledge for the motorised door.
