Hinges rubbing or squeaking: find the cause
A noise from the hinges and a door rubbing against the floor are not the same issue. Before adding lubricant or adjusting components, locate the fault to ensure a relevant intervention.

KEY POINTS
Lubricant can address a manufacturer-specified mechanical friction; it does not correct a sagging door or repair a detached hinge.
Distinguish squeaking from sagging
Open and close the door slowly without forcing. A localized noise from a joint may indicate maintenance needs. A floor rubbing, a mark on the frame, or an irregular gap around the door edge may point to a misalignment issue.
Also try the door lock in the open position. If the key turns freely here but catches when the door is closed, the bolts may be misaligned with the strike plates. Addressing only the cylinder will not resolve this misalignment.
Clean and maintain the hinges
Remove accessible dust with a clean cloth. Check the instruction manual: some hinges require specific maintenance, while others contain components that should not be lubricated arbitrarily.
Use the appropriate product for the joint in small amounts, then wipe off any excess. Avoid spraying on joints, paint, or inside the cylinder. A product suitable for a gond may not be suitable for a door lock.
Inspect fittings and adjustments
A loose screw, a degraded support, or a worn hinge may cause the door to sag. Simple tightening is only effective if the mounting and its support remain in good condition. A torn hole requires a proper reinstallation.
Settings vary depending on the model. Do not randomly tighten all screws and do not remove a door hinge that is not properly supported. A security door or glass door is heavy: its removal must be prepared with appropriate holding devices.
When to consider replacement
A deformed hinge, significant wear, or a door reinforcement adding weight may justify a modification of the hinges. A hinge reinforcement bar is one of the possible solutions after assessment.
At the end of the intervention, check the closure, locking mechanism, and play throughout the full height. A properly adjusted door must operate without requiring strong lifting or pushing at each passage.
