A hook lock can retain a sliding door within its strike plate, unlike a bolt designed solely for a hinged door. However, an internal door lock and an external bay lock do not share the same requirements.
On a glazed door, the available space in the frame, the panel thickness, and built-in handles influence the choice. On a bay window, the hardware and locking mechanism are part of a system tied to the window frame profile.
Before replacing the mechanism, we inspect the door's movement, alignment, and strike plate position. Worn rollers, a greasy rail, or incorrect adjustment may prevent a functional lock from operating.

An appropriate hook, a seamless closure.
We measure the backset, any cylinder centres, lock case depth and faceplate shape. The hook bolt must enter the strike without hitting its edge. Altering the strike at random can conceal a sliding fault and create another problem.
The image shows a Thirard mechanism intended for an interior door with a keyed edge. It helps to understand the function of the bolt, but does not constitute a universal solution for glazing or gates. The selected model depends on your installation.
To prepare a quotation, a photo of the entire door, the frame, and the strike plate is particularly useful. Specify the door material, whether it is used indoors or outdoors, and whether the issue relates to movement or solely to locking.

Does a bolted lock prevent cylinder picking?
The term describes the shape of the bolt that retains the door leaf. It does not indicate any particular resistance of the cylinder to forced entry techniques.
Can the handle be replaced alone?
Yes, if the handle is the only component at fault and if a compatible door furniture set exists. The mechanism and its operation are verified before any decision is made.
Why does the lock work when the door is open but not when closed?
This may indicate an alignment issue with the strike plate or a misalignment in the door leaf. The door leaf adjustment must be checked before replacing the lock.
