Vachette 5000 Trilock: Repair or Replace the Mechanism? | MULTISECU
A sticking Vachette 5000 lock does not necessarily need replacing. Before ordering a complete lock, it is important to distinguish between misalignment, a faulty cylinder and a fault in the multipoint mechanism.

KEY POINTS
Do not order based solely on the name « Trilock ». The reference, dimensions, bolt shapes, and door configuration must be noted.
Identify the symptoms
Does the key only turn when the door is closed? The strike plates or the door leaf alignment could be at fault. Is the handle no longer operating the bolts? The housing or its transmission must be inspected. A key that turns in the void requires further verification.
If the door is already open, observe its operation without effort and do not close it before confirming that it can be relocked. Do not open the housing under pressure: small components may shift and complicate diagnosis.
Identify the correct variant
Photograph the faceplate, bolts, central area, and markings. Professional measurements primarily cover the axis, entrance, handle follower, and faceplate dimensions.
Within the same family, the positioning of points and transmission components may vary. A similar part may fit poorly, operate incorrectly, or fail to provide the intended configuration. For a certified lock, cylinder and accessory compatibility must also be maintained.
When adjustment may suffice
A door that sags or varies with the seasons may cause the bolts to rub. A proper adjustment aims to restore alignment and relieve the mechanism, without arbitrarily enlarging all the strike plates.
Maintenance is carried out using the products specified for the hardware. Excess lubricant does not repair a worn part nor a loosened fastening. If the problem reoccurs quickly, the cause should be investigated rather than forcing further.
Repair without compromising the entire system
Replacement of a component is possible when the appropriate part is available and the rest of the lock remains in good condition. A deformed, heavily worn, or incompatible mechanism may justify a more complete replacement.
After the work, tests are conducted on all points, both door open and closed, using the daily-use keys. MULTISECU will explain what has been retained and what has been replaced. For a change in lock type, also consult our comparison of 5000 and 8800 installations.
