Cylinders & keys
Standard or high-security cylinder: the comparison criteria
Two cylinders that fit into the same lock can differ in protection, key management, and comfort. This comparison grid helps evaluate offers beyond price.

KEY POINTS
Start with compatible references, then compare functions and protections. A more expensive cylinder that is poorly sized remains a poor choice.
Compare the advertised protections
Request the model's specifications against drilling, breaking, pulling, and manipulation. Not all protections are present at the same level on cylinders marketed as 'high security'.
Documented protection must be distinguished from claims such as 'tamper-resistant' or 'inviolable'. No material should be presented as eliminating any risk of forced entry.
Compare double control
A common key can be reproduced under different modalities within a controlled reproduction system. Check the required documents, timelines, contacts, and specific conditions for the range.
The security card must be kept in a safe place. The legal or commercial protection of a system may evolve; it does not automatically follow from the presence of points or an unusual key shape.
Compare mounting and usage
The profile, two lengths, engagement, and door furniture must match. An internal button, a disengageable function, or a motorisation project may alter the reference to retain.
Think about users and the number of keys. A solution suitable for a rarely used service door is not necessarily the one for a main entrance shared by several people.
Compare the full project
The quotation must specify the cylinder, keys, associated protections, and installation. On a A2P-certified lock, verify the component's compatibility with the certified configuration.
A targeted replacement may be worthwhile if the door and lock remain in good condition. Otherwise, it's better to address the weak point of the entire system rather than concentrating the entire budget on the cylinder.
