Standard or high-security euro cylinder: protecting your door
The euro-profile cylinder controls the lock, but not all models meet the same requirements. Resistance, double locking capability, and compatibility with the door are the key factors to consider before selecting one.

KEY POINTS
A high-performance cylinder is only one part of the overall assembly. Its length, the protective door furniture, the lock and the frame matter as much as its product name.
What is the difference between the two types?
A standard euro-profile cylinder ensures daily lock operation. A security model can add protection against drilling, breaking, pulling, or mechanism manipulation. These features vary by model: the term 'high-security' does not describe a uniform level on its own.
The number of pins, the key shape and the price are not sufficient for comparison. Request the model sheet, the advertised protections, and, where available, the certification corresponding to the complete system.
Start with the correct dimensions
The European profile does not make all cylinders interchangeable. Measure separately the internal and external lengths from the centre of the mounting screw, taking into account the handle and the cylinder guard.
Also check the cam, any specific engagement, and available space. An excessively protruding cylinder on the exterior exposes the room more. Conversely, an overly short installation may hinder key insertion or the operation of the guard.
Restricted keys and ease of use
A security card may be required to order spare keys through the manufacturer’s authorised network. The rules depend on the key system and its protection; no key should be described as completely impossible to copy. Keep the card separate from your keys.
Also consider usage: internal button, disengageable function, users with difficulty in gripping, or future motorisation. It must be verified that the selected model can be opened from the outside when a key remains inside.
Create a coherent security upgrade
An EVVA ICS, for example, may be part of a premium solution after reference and dimension verification. Its benefits are discussed alongside a security door handle and the existing lock, without mandating the replacement of the entire door.
The A2P certification of a lock applies to a defined set. A cylinder change must adhere to compatible references to retain the characteristics of this set. MULTISECU can assess your cylinder replacement options and explain the relevant options.
