Mottura Garage Locks: Choosing the Right Locking Points

A multipoint lock can strengthen a compatible garage door. At Mottura, several configurations are available: the correct model must be selected based on the door leaf, frame, and door operation.

KEY POINTS

Four points does not necessarily mean a lock on each of the four sides. The positions of the exits and anchors depend on the model and installation.

Understanding the multipoint configuration

A central lock case operates several locking points. Operating rods and strikes secure the door leaf to its frame or the designated fixing points. Refer to the product diagram for their number and direction.

The 45 Mottura range includes two, four, or six point configurations depending on the model. Key systems also vary. A general photo of the range is insufficient to identify the version suitable for your garage.

Check the door before reinforcing it

The panel's strength, peripheral clearances, and frame condition are assessed first. Installing a robust lock on a degraded support may leave the main weakness unaddressed.

On an up-and-over garage door, the space occupied by the operating rods and any added weight must remain compatible with the door movement. Springs and balancing devices require specialist knowledge: do not adjust them yourself to compensate for a modification.

Take care with powered doors

A mechanical lock engagement may prevent the movement of a motorized door. Installation must ensure that motor commands do not force against the lock. The solution depends on the system and manufacturer specifications.

It is also essential to retain an appropriate access and unlocking method, especially if the garage has no other entry point. These requirements must be defined prior to installation, not after a first power failure.

Choose an appropriate security upgrade

For a garage communicating with the living space, consider the connecting door. For an independent unit, assess windows and other access points: reinforcing a single element does not address all potential entry points.

MULTISECU can assess the retention of your door, the installation of compatible equipment, or the suitability of a replacement. The quotation details anchoring points and adaptations. Final tests must verify locking, opening, and full door movement.
