Choosing a Lock Suited to Annecy’s Climate
An external closure is exposed to humidity, temperature fluctuations, and dirt. The choice of materials and installation must take into account this exposure, especially on a gate, garage, or poorly sheltered entrance.

KEY POINTS
A lock cannot alone compensate for the effects of cold or humidity on the door. The mounting, seals, drainage, and alignment must also be inspected.
Determine the actual exposure
A door in a sheltered area and a gate directly exposed to rain do not impose the same demands. Check where water enters, whether it pools, and whether the mechanism is protected.
Window frame distortions can vary with humidity and temperature. If the key only works at certain times, compare the operation when the door is open and closed before blaming the cylinder.
Select components designed for the environment
Check that the equipment is rated for outdoor use and examine its corrosion-resistance specifications. A shiny finish alone does not show how well it will last.
For electronic equipment, temperature limits, water protection, and installation position are model-specific. A motorised system designed for indoor use should not be exposed outdoors by default.
Maintain without worsening the issue
Clean accessible areas and follow the manufacturer's instructions for lubrication. Adding inappropriate or excessive products may trap dirt or disrupt internal components.
In the event of suspected freezing, do not use flame or hot water poured into the lock. Request an appropriate method tailored to the hardware and then investigate the cause of moisture. A recurring issue warrants a full system diagnosis.
Monitor settings over time
A lock that previously functioned smoothly can become stiff if the door frame sags or if the strike plates shift out of alignment. Fasteners, hinges, and operating clearances are part of routine maintenance.
MULTISECU can inspect exposed closures and propose a compatible component or a full reassembly. The aim is to restore reliable operation without seeking a hypothetical 'isolated lock' that would fix all door defects.
