The lift-to-lock mechanism

A hinge-lift lock uses the upward movement of the handle to engage part of its locking points. The key is then used, on standard models, to secure the mechanism.

THE KEY POINT TO REMEMBER

If lifting the handle requires increasing effort, a door adjustment may be necessary before the housing is damaged.

Check, seal, unlock

The lifting action transmits movement to the hinges and distributed points on the door. Once those are engaged, the key rotation locks the entire mechanism according to the model's operation.

To open a locked door, you must first unlock it using the intended control, then lower the handle. It is not necessary to force the lever against a still-locked mechanism.

Various points of closure

Gates, hooks and bolts can be combined on a single lock. Their positioning is defined by the manufacturer: a three-point lock does not necessarily have one point at the top and another at the bottom.

Compressing the seals can help a properly adjusted door or window close correctly. This alone does not establish its thermal, acoustic or burglary-resistance performance.

Advantages and constraints

This system allows multiple points to be operated from a single handle and is particularly suited to PVC, wooden or aluminium doors. The mechanism is often built-in.

He requests a proper alignment with the strike plates. A door that functions correctly, misaligned hinges, or damaged strike plates can make the operation difficult. Adding a strike plate does not transform a lock into one with more points.

Identifying a replacement part

Record the lock case reference, backset, centres, faceplate and each locking point’s position. Two sets of operating rods of the same length are not necessarily interchangeable.

The diagnosis determines whether the door should be adjusted, the housing replaced, or the entire closure system changed. Maintenance is carried out using the manufacturer's recommended products and locations.
