THE KEY POINT TO REMEMBER

The term 'tubular' can also refer to a keyed tubular lock. This is not necessarily the same equipment.

Handle and mechanism set

The controls are located on both sides of the door, with a bolt linked to the mechanism. Depending on the range, you can find round buttons, brackets, and various locking functions.

This design is commonly found on communication doors and certain professional access points. It's essential to identify the exact function before comparing models.

Passage, privacy or keyed entry

A passage function allows operation from either side. An intimacy function includes an internal shutter and may feature a backup release.

Keyed versions are suited to different applications. Interior egress, handle return, and post-closure behaviour must be confirmed according to the product's instruction sheet.

How to choose a tubular lock?

Check the door thickness, backset, bore diameters, handing and strike dimensions. Alterations may be needed if the replacement model uses different measurements.

Ease of operation and usage frequency are as important as finish. The term 'tubular' does not guarantee resistance to picking or a specific certification.

Installation and maintenance

Drilling must follow the manufacturer's template and comply with door specifications. Only reseat or modify old housings after verifying the technical solution.

A solid handle, incomplete return, or a bolt catching may stem from misalignment, excessive tightening, or a worn part. Maintenance and component replacement follow the guidelines for the installed range.
