Vachette 5000 or 8800: Two Locks, Two Installation Methods

The Vachette 5000 and 8800 are sometimes compared as two versions of the same lock. Their key difference, however, is the method of installation: integrated into the door for the 5000, and visible on the interior side for the 8800.

KEY POINTS

The current 8800 specification indicates a 'Standard' level. It should not be presented as systematically certified A2P, nor should its characteristics be attributed to the 5000 versions.

5000 Trilock: the mortice lock mechanism

The 5000 fits into the door's reserved space. Its long faceplate is visible on the edge, while the housing remains within the door's thickness. This architecture requires compatible preparation and precise dimensions.

The range includes various versions, including three- or five-point models. Different A2P levels are available. The name '5000' alone does not describe all bolts or all performance levels: the reference and configuration are definitive.

8800: a surface-mounted locking system

The 8800 is installed on the interior face of the door. The housing and transmission components remain accessible beneath their covers. The range offers various control and mounting configurations.

This installation can be advantageous when retaining a door without creating the deep recess of an in-built mechanism. However, it requires solid fixings, sufficient clearances, and correct strike plate alignment. A surface-mounted installation does not automatically guarantee certification.

What changes in a replacement project

Switching from one family to another involves more than just a housing exchange. The existing lock patterns, handle positions, bolt extensions, and finishes must be assessed. Adaptations can cost as much as the price of the lock itself.

For an existing door in good condition, retaining the original installation principle may be advisable. If the door is weakened or poorly fitted, a reinforcement or full replacement of the set may be preferable. A diagnosis enables comparison of these options without unnecessary work.

The items to be listed on the quotation

Request the exact reference, cylinder type, closure points, strike plates, and finishes. Any claimed certification must match the full proposed set, including compatible components.

Manufacturer datasheets allow verification of these differences: 5000 Trilock and 8800. MULTISECU helps you interpret them based on your door's actual constraints.
