Strengthening the door

Securing a glazed entrance door

A glazed door combines light, glazing, and closure. To improve it, the glazing and its support, the lock, and the frame must be studied as a whole, rather than treating the glass as a standalone element.

Lock installed on a glass door

KEY POINTS

Double glazing and glazing with anti-burglary properties do not refer to the same function. Check the composition and documented performance of the proposed product.

Understand the role of the glazing

A laminated glazing can retain fragments and, depending on its composition and classification, may contribute to delaying certain attacks. Not all laminated glazings provide the same level of resistance.

The reference and any applicable classification, particularly according to EN 356, must be specified. The selection must also take into account the maximum allowable thickness permitted by the frame and the additional weight.

Assess the retention within the door

The glazing must remain properly supported by the frame, casings, and fixings. A high-performance glazing installed in a fragile assembly does not automatically deliver the expected performance.

Joints, clearances, and the overall condition of the frame are also important for daily use. A door that deforms or rubs requires inspection before replacing the glazing or the lock.

Choose the closure and hardware

The cylinder, handle, and lock must be compatible with the available profile and thickness. A multi-point closure can be considered in conjunction with the strike plates and their anchoring.

The presence of a glass panel near an internal handle requires consideration of protection and evacuation procedures. The choice between a push button or a keyed lever must be made after evaluating these usage patterns.

Strengthen or replace the entire unit

Where window frames allow, a targeted upgrade may be feasible. To determine an overall documented resistance level, it is necessary to compare doorsets and their certified configurations.

MULTISECU can inspect the installation and explain the available options. Finishes, natural light intake, thermal performance, and building constraints all contribute to the security selection.
