Strengthening the door
The Role of Door Frames in Burglary Protection
The frame, or frame, receives the strike plates and door hinges. Even a high-quality lock depends on this support to transmit forces: its condition and anchoring are therefore essential.

KEY POINTS
A durable lock requires a solid frame, properly anchored to the wall. Adding locking points on a weakened support does not solve the underlying issue.
Understand the strength chain
When latched, the bolts enter the strike plates fixed to the frame. The loads then pass through these components and their anchors into the window frame and the wall.
A detached strike plate, a splintered wood, or inadequate anchoring can reduce the overall resistance. The diagnosis must therefore extend beyond the visible lock on the door.
Identify signs of weakness
Look for cracks, play in the fixings, signs of moisture, and deformations. A frame that moves when the door is operated warrants inspection.
Bolts that rub may indicate misalignment, but enlarging the bolt housings without understanding the cause risks weakening the support. Compare the door's operation when open and closed before deciding on any work.
Strengthen according to the support
The method depends on the frame material and the wall. A re-fixing, an appropriate strike plate, or a metal cladding may address different requirements.
The fixings must be sized and positioned on a support capable of taking the loads. There is no universal bolt length suitable for all doors, all walls, and all reinforcements.
Integrate the frame into a global project
For a steel door reinforcement or a new multipoint lock, also check the door opening and hinges. For a certified doorset, installation must comply with the requirements of the selected configuration.
MULTISECU can inspect the door, frame, and mounting area before proposing a solution. This approach enables choosing between restoration, targeted reinforcement, or replacement, with a closure that remains pleasant to use.
