Security locks: understanding what truly provides protection
A security lock must be selected to match the door it secures. Mechanical resistance, key management, quality of installation, and user comfort work together to create a consistent closure.

Components to inspect together
The housing drives the bolts, the cylinder controls locking, and the strike plates receive the closure points. Fastenings and the frame transmit forces to the support.
A weakness in any one of these components can limit the effectiveness of the others. A security door handle, a cylinder guard, or a side reinforcement for the hinges addresses different areas of the door.
Read the certification without confusion
The A2P certification for a door lock applies to a specific configuration with compatible components. Stars should not be automatically assigned to a complete door or to any cylinder installed in the lock.
A2P BP levels apply to doorsets. To maintain a certified configuration during a replacement, verify the specified references. Any insurance obligations are detailed in your policy.
Choose the appropriate installation method
A mortice lock is fitted within the thickness of the door. A rim lock sits on the inside surface; a covered multipoint version encloses the mechanism and operating rods.
The door's material, dimensions, and condition influence the selection. Installation must ensure proper bolt engagement and smooth operation, without requiring the door to be pushed or lifted.
Plan the keys and maintenance
Doubles, the possible security card and the availability of components count towards the duration. A button, a manually disengageable function, or a key organisation can facilitate usage according to need.
