Strengthening the door
Three tips to secure your entrance door in Annecy
Good protection does not simply mean installing a lock. It requires identifying the door's weak points and selecting reinforcements that complement one another. Here are the three key areas to examine first.

KEY POINTS
Before purchasing hardware, inspect the door: cylinder, security door handle, strike plates, hinges, and frame mounting. The weakest component may limit the effectiveness of the others.
1. Choose an appropriate cylinder and ensure it is well protected
The cylinder controls the locking mechanism. An appropriate model may include protection against breaking, drilling, or manipulation. Controlled key copies can also meet the need for double-key control.
The external cylinder length must account for the door furniture. A cylinder that protrudes too far remains exposed, even if it is a quality model. For a certified lock, check the approved replacement reference: fitting a different cylinder does not necessarily preserve the certified configuration.
2. Strengthen the handle area
A security door handle or a cylinder guard can enhance key entry protection. It is essential to assess the trim's robustness, installation, fastenings, and compatibility with the cylinder and door thickness.
A decorative escutcheon does not necessarily provide the same protection. Your choice should also allow comfortable operation, including access to the keyway, a good grip on the lever handle and, where needed, use of a longer key.
3. Assess the locking system and the door structure
A multipoint lock distributes the closure across multiple points. Its effectiveness depends on the quality of the strike plates and their anchoring, the frame, the door panel, and the hinges. The number of points is insufficient to compare two installations.
Depending on the existing condition, a suitable lock, hinge-side reinforcements, a reinforcement, or a complete doorset may be considered. A deformed door or a weakened support must be addressed before adding a more demanding closure.
Define the priorities of your project
The diagnosis allows distinguishing between essential works and comfort features. In a co-ownership setting, also consider the external appearance, common areas, and applicable project regulations.
