Securing a sliding window without drilling: the options
When preserving an existing window or avoiding work in a rented property, drilling-free solutions are valuable. However, they come with limitations that must be understood before relying on them.

KEY POINTS
An accessory without drilling may restrict movement; its resistance depends on its installation and support. It does not automatically replace a closure designed to resist forced entry.
Check the existing locking system first
A sliding bay that closes improperly may suffer from poor adjustment, worn rollers, or a misaligned strike plate. Ensure the sashes move smoothly and the locking mechanism engages without excessive force.
A cluttered rail or sagging opening must be addressed before installing a stop. An accessory may conceal the defect without restoring the lock's proper function.
Devices that limit sliding movement
Some catches and blocking bars are positioned within the sash movement zone. Their effectiveness depends on rail shape, retention method, and ease of removal from the inside.
Select a device specifically designed for your window frame and follow the instruction manual. A makeshift shim or sliding accessory does not provide known resistance. Do not block an exit required for evacuation.
Limits of adhesive accessories
Adhesive window blocks may serve comfort or movement restriction purposes. They must not be marketed as anti-burglary protection without specific product justification.
The support condition, humidity, and installation affect their performance. Also check the impact on finishes and the possibility of removal. A child safety device does not necessarily meet the same objective as a security closure against intrusion.
When work on the window itself is the better option
If the locking mechanism is weak or damaged, replacing a compatible component or installing a fixed fitting may be more appropriate. A solution against lifting must also be compatible with the sliding system.
The inspection of the glazing and surrounding access points completes the assessment. MULTISECU can assist you in distinguishing between a minor upgrade without drilling and a reinforcement requiring a specific installation.
