Which lock to choose for a bedroom door?
A bedroom door mainly needs privacy and ease of use. The choice between a latch-only fitting, a privacy lock and a keyed lock depends on the occupants and whether access might be needed in an emergency.

KEY POINTS
For a bedroom, distinguish between daily privacy and protection against forced entry. A lightweight internal door serves a different purpose than an entrance door.
Main solutions
A latch-only lock holds the door closed with its spring latch, without key-operated locking. A privacy lock adds an internal locking control, often with an emergency release on the opposite side, depending on the model.
A keyed lock may be suitable when access must be restricted to certain individuals. It can use a traditional key or a cylinder. In this case, double locks must be arranged, and access must be planned in the event of a lost key or occupant difficulty.
Check dimensions before replacing
Measure the backset, any handle-to-cylinder centres, lock case and faceplate dimensions, spindle size and latch direction. The replacement must fit the space available in the door.
Replacing only the handles does not resolve a defective housing. Conversely, a loose handle or an inappropriate square may explain poor performance without requiring a full lock replacement.
Take users into account
For a child's room or for someone requiring assistance, the possibility of a backup opening must be carefully considered. Choose a simple mechanism and avoid solutions that could trap someone without an appropriate access method.
In a rental or shared premises, requirements also depend on the building's usage. An electronic solution is not automatically required: it must meet a real need for access management.
Ensure smooth door operation
Before installation, check that the door does not rub and that the strike plate is properly aligned. A persistent closure may result from adjustment rather than the lock itself. Test the door open mechanism, then close gently to verify the result.
For an old door or atypical reservation, identifying the mounting profile avoids unnecessary cuts. MULTISECU can guide you toward a repair or a lock compatible with the desired level of privacy.
